Kristina Wuss

Praised by the press for her ablility of presenting strong characters on stage, German stage director Kristina Wuss has directed several operatic rarities, such as Giselher Klebes “Die tödlichen Wünsche” in Detmold 2006, conducted by Erich Wächter with stage and costume design by Axel Schmitt-Falckenberg. In 2007 Francesco Cileas “Adriana Lecouvreur” followed in Neubrandenburg / Neustrelitz; conducted by Stefan Malzew with stage and costume design by Axel Schmitt-Falckenberg and then “The Wreckers“ by Ethel Mary Smyth for the Stadttheater Gießen, conducted by Carlos Spierer with stage and costume design by Lukas Noll. In 2008 she directed "Salome" conducted by Stephan Tetzlaff, stage and costume design by Marcel Zaba, in Bremerhaven.

Kristina Wuss was born near
Potsdam in 1969. She studied piano, as well as stage and media directing at the same time, at the Hanns Eisler Musikhochschule in Berlin. After completing her piano studies with a concert diploma in the class of Annerose Schmidt she also gained a degree in stage directing and media directing. Kristina Wuss took part in masterclasses and assisted various important directors in stage productions, amongst them, Götz Friedrich, August Everding, Ruth Berghaus, Peter Konwitschny, Harry Kupfer and Willy Decker. Her successful debut as a stage director was Händel’s "Apollo und Daphne" and Schönberg’s "Verklärte Nacht" in a dance version in Berlin. Since her international debut as a director in Riga with “Woyzeck” at the New Theater in 1994, Kristina Wuss has often directed in the Baltic. Her productions cover various musical styles and epochs, from Monteverdi/Orffs “Orfeo” to Bartok’s “Bluebeards Castle”. Her work has been seen amongst others at the Bolschoy Theater in Moscow, in Poland, in Estonia, in Spain and her “Don Giovanni” was shown in Israel. Kristina’s production of “Alcina” was awarded the title of “Production of the Year” in Latvia, and it was this production that opened the 2004 autumn meeting of the General Directors of the European Opera Houses conference at the Latvian State Opera in Riga.

Kristina Wuss has, in a partnership with the German Foreign Office, conceptualized several works including, “Winterreise”, “Lenz-Monologue”, and “Rinaldo” and additionally she staged the ceremony to end the German Presidency of the European Union on
the 17th June 2007 in the Konzerthaus Berlin conducted by Sebastian Weigle.

Kristina Wuss is a prizewinner of the 1st International Stage Directing Competition of the Wagner Forum,
Graz and of the Akademie Musiktheater Heute der Deutsche Bank Stiftung.

Kristina Wuss has recently completed the newly created course in Theatre and Music Management at the Ludwig-Maximilian-Universität and at the Bayerische Theaterakademie in
Munich.
