The pearl of the French opera - „Manon” by Jules Massenet - will be performed to our festival audience in Bydgoszcz on April 25, 2024 by Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theater in Vilnius.
Next to Gounoud's „Faust” and Bizet's „Carmen”, „Manon” by Jules Massenet is one of the most famous and most beloved French operas in the repertoire of opera theaters worldwide. Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theater in Vilnius (LNOBT), in co-production with San Francisco Opera and the The Israeli Opera, premiered "Manon" on September 18, 2015. The production immediately attracted everyone's attention and received very positive reviews both from the audience and the critics. According to the then director of the theater, Gintautas Kėvišas, the main criterion for selecting the "Manon" creative team was the reference to the French opera tradition. Thus, on stage you can see the authentic chatter of the streets of Paris and the captivating charm of La Belle Époque.

What makes this opera so attractive, even 140 years after its premiere at the Opéra Comique theater in Paris on January 19, 1884? The plot of "Manon" itself contains a huge multitude of historical, psychological and social meanings, that reach the consciousness of a modern mind, appealing to the personal feelings of each individual.

A gifted creator of melody and lyricism, Massenet was also a profound psychologist, able to express a wide range of emotions with which he painted impressive portraits of women. His music, full of nuances and sincere intimacy, still touches the hearts of audiences around the world.
