It’s here — the eye-catching poster and the programme of the 32nd Bydgoszcz Opera Festival! Opera, operetta, ballet, as well as Kashubian songs and a secular oratorio (“a hidden opera”) will be heard in unique, original productions by leading ensembles from the Netherlands, Monaco, and Latvia, as well as Polish opera theatres from Warsaw and Szczecin. Ticket sales for the festival performances have already started on 5th JANUARY, at our Opera Nova box office and online. Ticket prices (depending on seating) range from PLN 190 to PLN 120 for regular tickets, and from PLN 160 to PLN 90 for discounted tickets. A detailed price list is available in the “Tickets” tab. The poster announcing the 32nd Bydgoszcz Opera Festival, created by the outstanding artist Jacek Staniszewski, features three colourful shapes — a kind of continuation of the festival’s signature “coil” motif, familiar to music lovers from the previous edition as Novadonna (a name coined by our Facebook fans).
“Opera doesn’t have to be presented in a traditional way. Since contemporary theatres use multimedia, projections and moving stage sets, the poster should also be open to new forms,” the artist emphasises.
This idea perfectly reflects the character of this year’s Festival — open to diversity and modernity, while maintaining the highest artistic standards.
Jako gospodarze 25 kwietnia o godz. 19.00 zainaugurujemy XXXII BFO pierwszą w historii bydgoskiej sceny inscenizacją opery Gaetana Donizettiego „Łucja z Lammermoor”. Reżyserii podejmie się znakomity amerykański twórca Thaddeus Strassberger - laureat Europejskiej Nagrody Operowej, autor ponad 75 realizacji na najważniejszych scenach świata, m.in. w Royal Opera House i Los Angeles Opera. - Teatr Wielki – Opera Narodowa w Warszawie przywiezie absolutnie unikatowy cykl pieśni kaszubskich „Wòlô Bòskô” Łukasza Godyli – pierwszą w historii realizację muzyki poważnej w języku kaszubskim. - Polska Opera Królewska zaprezentuje nową inscenizację świeckiego oratorium Georga Friedricha Haendla „Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno” – dzieła nazywanego przez Romaina Rollanda „utajoną operą”. - Opera na Zamku w Szczecinie wystawi kultową operetkę „Orfeusz w piekle” Jacques’a Offenbacha w przewrotnej, współczesnej odsłonie. - Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo (Monako) - po entuzjastycznie przyjętym „Romeo i Julii” - powróci do Bydgoszczy z „LAC” („Le Lac des cygnes”) w choreografii Jeana-Christophe’a Maillota. To autorska, nowoczesna interpretacja klasycznego baletu „Jeziora łabędziego” Piotra Czajkowskiego, w której Maillot psychologicznie zgłębia mroczniejsze oblicze historii księcia Zygfryda. - Finałem XXXII Bydgoskiego Festiwalu Operowego będzie jedno z najbardziej wstrząsających arcydzieł XX wieku – „Salome” Richarda Straussa w głośnej, najnowszej inscenizacji Łotewskiej Opery Narodowej. Reżyser Alvis Hermanis przenosi biblijny dramat Oscara Wilde’a do futurystycznej wizji roku 2030, tworząc mroczny, intensywny psychothriller, w którym sacrum splata się z technologią. As hosts, on 25 April at 7:00 PM, we will open the 32nd Bydgoszcz Opera Festival with the first-ever staging in the history of the Bydgoszcz stage of Gaetano Donizetti’s opera Lucia di Lammermoor. The production will be directed by the outstanding American director Thaddeus Strassberger — winner of the European Opera Prize and creator of more than 75 productions for some of the world’s leading stages, including the Royal Opera House and Los Angeles Opera. - Nederlands Dans Theater 2 (Netherlands) – appearing in Bydgoszcz for the first time, one of the world’s finest contemporary dance companies will present two performances: Folkå by Marcos Morau, and the legendary SAABA by Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar, in a new version created especially for NDT 2 (world premiere: March 2026). - Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera (Warsaw) will bring a truly unique song cycle Wòlô Bòskô by Łukasz Godyla - the first classical music production ever created in the Kashubian language. The cast includes native Kashubians, among them acclaimed theatre and film actress Danuta Stenka, as well as Opera Nova soloist Damian Wilma, who also co-created the script. Tickets online: HERE
- Polish Royal Opera will present a new staging of G. F. Handel’s secular oratorio Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno - a work described by Romain Rolland as a “hidden opera.” The allegorical conflict between Beauty, Pleasure, Time, and Truth will be brought into a contemporary setting, raising questions about values, transience, and the price of knowledge. - Opera at the Castle (Szczecin) will stage Jacques Offenbach’s iconic operetta Orpheus in the Underworld in a witty, modern reinterpretation. Here, the ancient myth is filtered through the world of media: Olympus becomes a TV show, Earth turns into a scripted reality series, and Hell becomes a grotesque pop-culture horror. - Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo (Monaco) – after their enthusiastically received Romeo and Juliet, the company returns to Bydgoszcz with LAC (Le Lac des cygnes) choreographed by Jean-Christophe Maillot. This is a bold, contemporary reimagining of Tchaikovsky’s classic Swan Lake, in which Maillot explores the darker psychological layers of Prince Siegfried’s story. Tickets online: HERE
- The grand finale of the 32nd Bydgoszcz Opera Festival will be one of the most haunting masterpieces of the 20th century — Salome by Richard Strauss, presented in the acclaimed newest production of the Latvian National Opera. Director Alvis Hermanis moves Oscar Wilde’s biblical drama into a futuristic vision of the year 2030, creating a dark, intense psychological thriller where the sacred intertwines with technology.
